Although the official start of summer is still a few weeks away that’s sure not stopping us celebrating all things summer. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for pool filled days and late summer nights. Since we are starting Camp Littles and Me next week I wanted to surprise the girls with a beach themed Welcome Summer Party to kick things off.
The best part? This was really easy to put together. It’s amazing how a couple of summery recipes, beach themed items from around the house, a few dollar store purchases and a printable banner can create a space for special memories. Follow these 4 easy peasy steps and you’ll be ready in no time to surprise your kiddos and say hello to all things summer!

1. Plan your menu
When planning your menu pick 1 or 2 simple recipes that you know your family will enjoy. You could even pick up a few items from your grocery store bakery. We had muffins, scrambled eggs, & fruit bowls. Keep it simple.
We are big lemon fans over here so I whipped up a batch of greek yogurt lemon poppyseed muffins. My husband said they were the best muffins he’s ever had so we’ll definitely be making these again.
We also used Siggi’s Vanilla Yogurt and fresh fruit to make Fruity Waffle Bowls. I love this yogurt because it is high in protein and way lower in sugar than other brands. Plus it has wholesome ingredients!
This was an extra special treat because we used waffle cone bowls. Totally not healthy, but definitely a fun surprise!
It was fun setting up our special breakfast picnic on our living room floor. Bridgett kept pretending that we were at the beach.
2. Set the scene
Use items from around your house to set the scene. I used a few beach toys and colorful towels to create a summery beach vibe. When setting the scene the important thing to remember is that you don’t need to go out and buy fancy things, you probably already have what you need around your house.
I also blew up a beach ball, grabbed a flamingo from the girls room, and a big thing of bubbles.
Since I love finding ways to make our ordinary moments a little bit more magical, I’ve started collecting pretty napkins and party supplies when I see them on sale. That way when the occasion arises I can grab a few things from my celebration box and we’re ready to go. It’s amazing how a cheerful napkin can make a little girl (or let’s be honest…mama) smile! I adore these happy little cupcake liners from Shop Sweets and Treats. They have the best greaseproof cupcake liners around!
3. Hang up a banner
After you’ve set the scene with beach towels and toys, add the finishing touch by hanging up a We Love Summer Banner (You can download the free printable at the bottom of this post). I think we might keep it up all summer long, because it’s just so happy. What’s not to love about summer?!
4. Enjoy the surprise and celebrate!
Most importantly don’t forget to stop and enjoy the surprise. I’m totally guilty of actually missing out on the special moments because I’m distracted by cleaning up the dishes or moving on to the next thing. Stop. Sit down. Enjoy the time with your family.
It was fun to see how happy the girls were and it was such a special treat to eat our breakfast on the living room floor. Those eggs didn’t stay on that plate long!
After Libby demolished her eggs (and by demolished I mean threw them all over the towel) she moved on to eyeing the fruit bowls. Ha!
Of course Olaf had to join in the fun because he LOVES summer!
There you have it! 4 easy peasy steps for a super fun welcome summer party. I know your kiddos will love being surprised. Remember it doesn’t have to be complicated to be memorable. Use what you have and enjoy the time celebrating with your kiddos. Be sure to download the FREE printable We Love Summer banner at the bottom of this post.
