It’s all about LOVE this month and there’s so many fun ways we’re celebrating! This year I’m on a mission to create more ideas for family night because as much as I love watching movies as a family, I don’t want to do that every week. Maybe you’re in the same boat? You want to spend time with your family, but you have zero ideas. Yup, I’m right there with you friend! But never fear! I’ve been doing some brainstorming and I will be sharing a fun new idea every Friday right here on the blog. I have a lot of exciting ideas up my sleeves to share with you this year!
To kick things off, today I’m so excited to share with you how to celebrate love in action with a simple Valentine’s Day Random Acts of Kindness Family Night. It’s the perfect Valentine’s Day tradition to start with your family!
The best part about this activity is that you only need a few supplies and even the littlest kiddos can get involved. Ready to get started?!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- You are so loved Printable (FREE Download below)
- Construction Paper in the color(s) of your choice
- Washi tape
- Scissors
- A sweet little treat
After you’ve gathered all of the necessary supplies, download the ‘You are So Loved’ PDF (FREE download below) and print as many copies as you’d like onto your favorite color(s) of construction paper. If you have older kids ask them help cut out the hearts during your family night assembly time, but since my girls are so young I went ahead and cut out the hearts ahead of time.

To make things as easy as possible for short little attention spans (hello 4 and 1 year old) I prepared as much as I could and set everything up on a wooden tray. That way it’s all set up and ready to go for family night! I’ve learned (the hard way) that being more prepared usually sets up our time together for success, but then again with kids you really never know how it’s going to go. That’s where humor and not holding the perfect vision for how you want the night to go too tightly comes in.
The assembly of these is easy peasy. Use a small piece of washi tape to secure your treat to the front or back of the card. We chose to put them on the back because the lollipops were blocking the text if they were on the front. But you can do whatever you prefer! Also a little side note, we chose to use lollipops to keep them as allergy friendly as possible, but once again feel free to use your families favorite candy.
If your kids love arts and crafts you could even have them decorate the cards!
Once the cards are assembled, now it’s time to deliver them! You could split up your family time into two separate nights (one for assembling and one for delivering) or keep it all in one night depending on your families schedule. This is where it gets really fun! How and where you deliver them is completely up to you.
Here’s some ideas of where to spread the love with your cards:
- Give the cards to your neighbors (either ring the doorbell or leave them as an anonymous surprise)
- Go downtown and pass out cards to people walking by
- Take the cards to a children’s hospital
- Deliver the cards to people you encounter when you are out running errands
- Buy coffee or lunch for the person behind you in the drive through line and have the employee give them the card when they pull up
- Put a card in your mailbox or on your garbage can
- Take cards to your local police department or fire station
- Bring the cards to a local ministry
- Visit a new park and deliver cards to families you meet or place them on a park bench or slide ready to surprise the next person that arrives
