This Love You to the Moon and Back Valentine's Day Family Mystery Dinner is sure to become a family favorite. Your kids will love getting a silly menu and a mixed up dinner surprise. With step by step instructions + FREE Printables you’ll easily be able to create lots of laughter and a special memory with your family at home.

Growing up Valentine’s day was one of my most favorite holidays because my dad and brothers would set the table extra fancy and cook a delicious meal for the girls in my family. It was so simple, yet a memory I will cherish forever. While any month is a good time to celebrate what you love about your family, I can’t help but be a big fan of February and the chance to enjoy a day all about love.

Whether you’re on the hunt for something fun for Valentine’s day or you just want to add an exciting twist to dinner with your family, you’re in the right spot. If you enjoy puns and outer space then this Valentine’s Day family mystery dinner is going to rocket your world.

Unsure about how a mystery dinner works? Never fear. It’s super simple.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • To the Moon and Back Mystery Dinner Printables (download below)
  • Your favorite family meal (You need 9 items total, but silverware and napkins can count as individual items)
  • 3 paper plates per person (paper is optional, but really helpful and makes for easy cleanup wince there’s three courses)
  • Pens/Pencils
  • Disposable Tablecloth (this is also optional, but if you decide to serve a messy dinner and your three year old doesn’t order a fork with that course, you’ll thank me later)

Ready to get started? Hooray!

The first thing you’ll need to do is get your table ready. Add a tablecloth and place a menu on the table. You can print one for each person or use one for the whole table to share. You’ll also want to make sure each person has their own order form and a pen.

You can also use the included place setting cards and the love you to the moon and back table decoration to add a little flair to your table. I chose to stack a few favorite Valentine’s themed books in the center and then put the sign on top. Easy and festive!

Once your table is all ready to go be sure to fill out the menu key. This will make it really simple to quickly gather each person’s selections for each course.

Now that your table and meal key are ready, the last step is to make your meal and set out everything you are using in the kitchen so it’s ready to go for easy serving.

After your family is sitting down at the table, you can explain that this is a very out of this world restaurant and things might be a little mixed up — blame it on the lack of gravity? Invite your kids to use the menu to pick what they want for each course and write the number on their own order form.

For younger kids, you can ask them which numbers they want for each course and help them write on their order form. Before collecting the order forms, make sure everyone has written their name at the top.

Use the order forms and the key to put together and serve each course. Once you start serving up each course, let the laughter begin! A course without silverware is totally possible at this restaurant.

Continue until each course has been served! The best part is that you can totally use these printables with any dinner you’re serving. No need to get too fancy to create extra special memories.

I hope you and your family have a blast and feel incredible SPACE-cial after this silly Valentine’s Day Family Mystery Dinner.
