Hands on activities, books, and meaningful traditions are such a great way to help your family understand and engage with the real hope of Easter. Here’s the BEST Christ-Centered Easter Resources for Families!
Easter is just around the corner and I’ve got a burning question for you. Do you feel equipped and eager to share the gospel with your kiddos?
This year my heart has increasingly become burdened to share the true hope, joy and LIFE that Easter means with my girls and everyone I come in contact with. I want the world to know that Easter is so much more than bunnies, eggs, candy, and pretty pastel dresses. Are those things fun? Sure! But they pale in comparison to the greatest news our kids could ever know! More than anything I want my girls to know about the rescuing love of our passionate Father who is on a redemptive mission. I want them to know that Easter is about how our sin separates us from God, but that He had a restoration plan and sent Jesus to die on our behalf and rise again so we could be with Him again.
Easter changes everything, but it’s definitely not as simple to explain as Christmas. It’s easy to talk about the gift of Jesus coming as a baby. Kids adore babies. But in complete transparency, I’ve really struggled with how to talk about death and the cross especially with younger kiddos. I don’t think that I’m alone in feeling like this. Thankfully there are so many wonderful people who have used their God given talents to help parents share the true hope of Easter and explain the gospel message in such a clear and age appropriate way. I’m so excited to share all of these amazing resources with you. Here’s the Best Christ-Centered Easter Resources for Families.

The BEST Christ-Centered Easter Resources for Families
1. Easter Books
There are so many wonderful Christ-centered Easter books, but these are some of my favorites. I love placing them in a basket or on bookshelves for easy access. Books are such a great way to talk about Easter especially with younger kiddos. Each year I like to purchase a new book to give the girls on Easter morning.
Our Favorite Christ-Centered Easter Books:
The Garden The Curtain and The Cross
The Berenstain Bears and The Easter Story
The Beginners Bible: The Very First Easter
2. Easter Countdown Cards
We can’t wait to countdown to Easter with these Easter Cards from Crew + Co! There are 16 gorgeous cards included that have original art and beautiful hand lettering. They’re perfect to use year after year and can easily be stored in the hand stamped cloth bag they come with. Each day includes a verse to focus on and daily reading from The Jesus Storybook Bible. We will be using this each day and then doing a few additional activities alongside.
3. Easter Story Egg
If you’re looking for a great hands on tool to teach about Easter you’re going to love The Story Egg™. Be sure to check out this post that I wrote to learn all about it. We love how it’s uncomplicated yet full of purpose and hands on learning about the true meaning of Easter.
4. To Build a Cross
I am so excited to share about To Build a Cross because I think it is an incredibly life changing story that will help your family experience the cross in an intimate and fresh way (plus, it was written by my incredibly talented brother). This book is written for an older audience, but can definitely can be modified and used with kids. We plan on using the experiential study in the back of the book that walks you through building a cross. It will be such a powerful, hands on experience that I pray will resonate deeper and deeper year after year. You can see an awesome promo video about the book here.
I had lost hope and much of my belief. And then a pastor friend of mine asked me to build a cross for an Easter service…and it profoundly changed everything. I wrote “To Build a Cross” because of this experience and I hope it will bring life to you as well. It’s written for you, for your families, for your small group, for anyone you do life with. I added an experiential study at the back to help you engage with each other and with Jesus.
This is my story of building a cross, engaging with Jesus and having my hope restored after deep loss. Maybe you have never heard the story of the cross, or maybe your heart has grown weary and calloused to the familiar words. I want to invite you along, to participate, and find what Jesus might be offering you as well. [Ryan Christian, To Build a Cross]
5. FREE Printable Easter Activities
There are so many amazing FREE printables available, but hands down our most favorite spot for Christ-Centered Easter printables are from Happy Home Fairy. Julie has such a gift for putting together tools that are simple, Jesus focused, and perfect for kids of all ages. Be sure to check out all of her Easter resources. Here’s some of our favorites that we have done in years past:

6. Bible Story Peg Dolls
These Bible Story Peg Dolls from The Silvan Reverie (one of my favorite blogs by the way!) have been one of our favorite purchases. They aren’t specifically for Easter, but I had to include them because we will most definitely be using them to act out the Easter story, plus they would be an amazing gift for your kiddos for retelling Bible stories. They pair perfectly with The Jesus Storybook Bible!
Aren’t these Christ-Centered Easter Resources for Families so wonderful? Pick one or a few that you absolutely love and can see your family enjoying and use those. Don’t feel like you need to use all of them (we most definitely won’t be!) Let’s not be so busy doing all the things (even the good things) that we miss out on Easter.
When I stop and think about the real reason we celebrate Easter I want to jump out of my seat and share the best news ever with my kids more than ever before. Christ’s love compels us, mamas! Let’s make this Easter about Him and the LIFE we have because of Jesus.
What a great list! I am excited to check out those printables! We started our countdown today and it went so well!
