Sunday Sundaes are the perfect way to celebrate summer with your friends and family! Especially when paired with The Gathering Box from Faith and Family Collective. Grab your favorite ice cream, hang up the celebrate banner, and spend time noticing ordinary and extraordinary moments in the life of your family!
This post is in collaboration with Faith & Family Collective. I was generously given The Gathering Box in exchange for my review, but as always, all opinions stated are my own.
Summer is here and that can only mean one thing. It’s time to celebrate with Sunday Sundaes! The longer nights and warmer days make it such a fantastic time to spend more intentional time together as a family. Our family absolutely loves to celebrate summer. There’s truly something incredible that happens when we take time to stop and notice, pause and savor, and truly celebrate the ordinary and extraordinary moments.
Sunday Sundaes is one of our favorite summer traditions and dates all the way back to my brother’s college days where it all began at a little ice cream shop called Walrus. This cute little ice cream shop in the heart of Fort Collins, CO serves up a tasty treat called Saturdaes (basically an ice cream Sundae, but way better). In true sibling love my brother and his wife shared the details of their favorite Saturday tradition with me—eating Saturdaes on Saturday. I obviously was a huge fan, because almost every Saturday I would head to Walrus with a group of friends to enjoy a Saturdae. It was glorious! Fast forward 6 years, +2 babies, and a move to South Carolina later, the tradition lives on with a slight twist. What once was Saturdaes on a Saturday has now become Sunday Sundays (inspired by our neighbors inviting us over for Sunday Sundays the first summer after we moved). Ready to start this fun summer tradition with your family?
Here’s what you’ll need for Sunday Sundaes:
- Ice Cream
- Bowls
- Spoons
- Your Favorite Toppings
- Ice Cream Scoop
PS: If you’re looking for a simple tool to help you celebrate the ordinary and extraordinary you’ll definitely want to snag The Gathering Box. It’s the perfect addition to Sunday Sundaes (I share more about it below).
Since ice cream sundaes are all about the toppings we went a little bit overboard with our options. I usually try to get one favorite topping for each family member and then a few others that we all enjoy, but you can make it as simple or elaborate as you’d like.
Setting up your Sunday Sundae bar is as easy as washing & cutting the fruit of your choice, pouring your favorite toppings into bowls, and opening up your ice-cream. Your family will be ready to scoop up your tasty sundaes in no time!
If you thought that Sunday Sundaes couldn’t get any better, think again. Recently we were sent The Gathering Box from Faith and Family Collective and we are obsessed. If you have been around here for any amount of time you probably know that we love to celebrate the big and small things in life, which is exactly the heart behind The Gathering Box. It was the perfect addition to our ice cream bar!
The Gathering Box is an intentional, hand-crafted, and inspiring resource designed for families—just like yours! How cute is that box?! The box we received included a beautiful fabric celebrate banner, set of 20 reflection cards, and handmade wooden display stand.
We enjoyed hanging up the gorgeous fabric banner for our just because celebration. I can’t wait to use it over and over again. I hope that this banner becomes a beautiful tradition that my girls will fondly tell their kids about and that every time they see it their hearts are reminded to celebrate the ordinary and extraordinary.
One of my favorite features of The Gathering Box is the reflection cards that are included. The cards share 20 different reasons to stop and notice blessings, struggles, and moments we might otherwise miss. They include a reflection, scripture to read, and discussion questions. This box makes it so easy to create purposeful family time!
For our first Sunday Sundaes of the season we chose to celebrate summer. I hung the banner, set out the reflection card, lit a candle, and pulled out our ice cream bar ingredients. Easy peasy!
What’s better than ice cream sundaes you ask? Ice cream sundaes on Sunday!
There’s so much to celebrate, isn’t there? I love the reminder to pause the crazy, focus on the right now, and savor the beauty of today. It’s amazing how something as simple as Sunday Sundaes can become an anchor in your family that helps you notice the good and celebrate the ups and downs of life.
What fun summer traditions does your family enjoy year after year? I hope that your family gives Sunday Sundays a try this summer!
