Does your family love to laugh? That might be a silly question, because I’m not sure I’ve met anyone that doesn’t like to laugh. But, if you answered YES then you’re in for a treat today. Like they say, laughter is good medicine and boy oh boy do I have a super fun activity that will make your family laugh and create such a fun memory together. This Spring Mystery Dinner Family Night Activity is the silliest meal your family will probably ever have.
This spring mystery dinner is a silly 3 course mixed up dinner that will have your family guessing what they’re going to get throughout the meal. Dessert first without a spoon and broccoli on the side is totally possible at Spring has Sprung Cafe!
Here’s what you’ll need for your own silly spring mystery dinner:
- Your favorite family meal (You need 9 items total, but silverware, napkins, and cups can count as individual items)
- Spring Mystery Dinner Printables (FREE download below)
- 3 Paper Plates per person (Paper is optional, but really helpful and makes for easy cleanup since there’s 3 courses)
- Pens/Pencils
- Tablecloth (Makes for easy cleanup especially if you are serving a messy dinner like spaghetti and your kids don’t get silverware)
This meal is really simple to put together because you don’t have to go out and buy anything fancy. You can use whatever dinner you’re already planning on serving and make it fit. To set the scene for your silly restaurant first put a tablecloth on your table. This is totally optional so don’t worry if you don’t have a tablecloth on hand, but I promise you’ll thank me later because using one definitely makes cleanup a breeze. You can also add the Spring has Sprung Cafe table tent to the center of your table to create a super fun restaurant atmosphere.
Be sure to set out a menu on the table. You could print one for each person or use one for the table to share. You’ll also want to make sure each person has an order form.
I also should note that you might want to assign one parent as a server and the other can help with the kids at the table. When my husband and girls came downstairs I pretended to be the waitress at Spring has Sprung Cafe and excitedly welcomed them to the restaurant, asked how many were in their party, led them to the table, and showed them the menu. For our family mystery dinner I put a coloring sheet and an order form at each person’s spot at the table.
When planning your meal you’ll use the handy dandy key to assign a number to each item you’re serving. This makes it so easy for the server to quickly put together each course. Like I mentioned before you can even use utensils and napkins as part of the menu which makes it so hilarious because you might end up like my husband with no silverware to eat spaghetti for dessert.
It’s helpful to set out everything that you’re using in your kitchen so it’s ready to go for easy serving.
Once your family is sitting down at the table, you can explain that Spring has Sprung Cafe is a very silly restaurant and things might be a little mixed up. Have each of your kids pick what they want for each course on their own order form. For younger kids, you can ask them which numbers they want for each course and help them write on the order form. Before collecting the order forms, make sure everyone has written their name at the top. While the server is dishing up the first everyone at the table can enjoy coloring the happy spring coloring sheets.
Once you start serving up each course let the silliness and giggles begin! Dessert for an appetizer is totally normal at this cafe.
