Spring is one of my favorite seasons because of the visual reminders of hope springing up all around. There is something so marvelous about seeds sprouting, buds budding, and baby birds singing. This New Creation Butterfly Verse Craft is a fun and simple way to celebrate spring and talk about 2 Corinthians 5:17 with your kids! As an added bonus, it’s also a fantastic way to learn about symmetry in a hands on way.

This time of year is a great time to get outside with your kids and use creation to show a powerful picture of the transformation that is possible in their life because of Jesus. I love to talk about this when we are planting seeds, examining budding trees and flowers, and watching caterpillars transform into butterflies!
P.S.—If you’ve never seen caterpillars turn into butterflies it’s pretty neat! This kit is one of my favorite spring activities and it would be so fun to pair with this craft.
A love for butterflies, this gorgeous butterfly book, and 2 Corinthians 5:17 are the inspiration behind this craft! The best part? You only need a few simple supplies to create one of your own.
Here’s What You’ll Need:

- New Creation Butterfly Template (No printer? No problem! Draw a butterfly on a piece of paper and write the verse inside)
- White Cardstock
- Washable Paint (this is our favorite kind)
- Q-Tips or Paintbrush
- Plate (or reusable paint palette) to put your paint on — I’ve also recently saw the idea to use condiment cups and then you can simply put the lid back on when you’re finished. Brilliant!
- Pipe Cleaners (You could also use sticks or paper to make the antenna)
How to Make The New Creation Butterfly Verse Craft:
Download and print the New Creation Butterfly Verse Craft template onto white cardstock. Pour your paint onto a plate or paint palette.

Fold the paper in half so that only one half of the butterfly is shown. Now you’re ready to paint!

Use Q-Tips or a paint brush to add dots of paint to one side of your butterfly.

Once you’re happy with the dots you’ve added to your butterfly carefully lay the page flat on the table.

Fold the blank side of your butterfly on top of the painted side and lightly press the page with your hands. Make sure that the paint is stamped on the unpainted side.

Carefully open the page to reveal your gorgeous butterfly! Set aside the page to dry completely.

Practice saying 2 Corinthians 5:17 or talk about what it means for something to be symmetrical while your butterfly is drying.

Once the butterfly is completely dry, use scissors to cut around the gray line.

Use pipe cleaners to create the antennae and then attach it with glue. If you don’t have pipe cleaners, you can get creative with sticks, paper, or anything else you can find around your house.

Ta-dah! Your beautiful butterfly is complete. Hang it up in your room to be reminded that in Christ you are a new creation!

As you create this cheerful butterfly craft, I hope you’re reminded of the hope and life we have because of Christ.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. [2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV]
