Spending time as a family doesn’t have to cost a fortune. This Blanket Fort Family Night is the perfect inexpensive and fun activity for your family. Grab some blankets, pillows, and a little imagination and get ready to build the best blanket fort ever.
The girls have been sick this week so I’ve been trying to think of as many fun at home ideas as possible in an attempt to keep us from going crazy. I have such fond memories building blanket forts as a kid and if history repeats itself my girls will too. They love blanket forts like something fierce. The little kid in me was definitely channeled as we went on a hunt to find every possible blanket and pillow to make the perfect hideaway. Although we did it during the day, I got to thinking that a Blanket Fort Family Night would be SO fun and not to mention ridiculously easy and inexpensive.
Blanket Fort Family Night Supplies:
- Blankets & Sheets
- Pillows
- Chairs
- Clothespins
- Optional: Books + your favorite treat
Once you’ve gathered all the blankets, sheets, and pillows you can possibly find you’re ready to roll. First you’ll need to clear a space in your living room (or wherever you are building your blanket fort). Then let the fort building begin! The best part of blanket forts is that there’s no exact way to build them and you can be super creative with how you put it together. Use chairs or your couch to drape the blankets, clothespins to help secure everything, and toss in some pillows.
Once your fort is all set up, grab your favorite snacks and books and get super cozy!
If you’re setting up your blanket fort when it’s dark outside, wouldn’t it be fun to hang a string of lights in your fort to add an extra cozy ambience. I can’t wait to set up a fort with lights for family night soon!
Here’s the aftermath of our book filled afternoon. The girls LOVED it and have already asked to do it again tomorrow and the next day and every day in the foreseeable future.
I hope you and your family enjoy building your very own blanket fort! I would love to see what you come up with. Snap a photo, use the hashtag #celebrateandplay and tag me @thelittlesandme. Happy fort building!
I think this is a good idea.
